I am shopping for a Tractor/Loader/Mower combo. I haven't narrowed it beyond Deere, New Holland and possibly Kubota, but I prefer the more contemporary looks and ergonomics of Deere and New Holland. I own 10 acres of land I will be building on soon. I will need to finish mow appx. 3-3 1/2 acres, push snow and do various loader work. Maybe mow the balance of the land as a pasture if I stop having it planted. My wife will probably do alot of the mowing as she enjoys it and came from a farm as a young person. We think we want a mid-mount-mower. My question is, "Which of these three brands is easiest to install and remove the MMM and while were at it, what about ease of installation and removal of front-end-loaders? Thank you for your opinions. It seems like I have been on the verge of buying a tractor for 8 months now, but I am not on the land yet, but I also keep having just one more issue to resolve in order to make a decision! Thanks again.

Tough to answer what someone else would like, but from my experience (with both), the Deere is a slight winner - all things considered. But you will get arguments and firm beliefs that NH and Kubota are the winners. That decision will have to be up to you, as you (or your wife) will have to live with whatever it is. Enjoy making the decision. Maybe your best dealer or sales person is the real answer to your question. They can make life with a compact miserable or very good, in the wink of an eye. ....

I think there have been several threads on this subject. I do not know about the Kubota and NH, but the JD is easy enough. I have a 4300 and like it despite some problems. Taking off the FEL is a two minute job - release a lever from the drivers seat, "lower" the FEL which lifts it off of the tractor, turn off the tractor and disconnect the hoses - all done. Putting it on is just as quick and easy.
I have the 72" MMM. Roll it under the tractor, connect the PTO, connect about 6 attaching points, raise it up, turn the mower wheels forward and attach the removable wheel - maybe ten minutes at most mainly because I check the manual each time. ....

Like Doug said, the loader on the JD wins hands down, mine takes about 15 seconds longer because I have the new safty arm on the front to un-pin, 10- of those seconds is walking around to the front of the tractor (I'm slow). I don't have a MMM but do have a #48 backhoe and after removing the 3pth arms the backhoe can be attached and removed from the tractor seat. IMHO the JD beats them all and price just depends on how good you are at dickering. David ....

Another thing to keep in mind is that a mid-mount mower and loader (and backhoe for that matter) can all be used at the same time with Deere, so you wouldn't have to remove the loader to mow unless it was in the way. You could also use the loader with the mower on if that wasn't in the way for clearance. I have a 4600 with 460 loader and 48 backhoe. The set up works very well. Both attach and detach quickly and easily. The first couple of times take longer than a couple of minutes, but once you get the steps down it is really quite simple and quick. I'm not sure about the other brands but I've been through the process you're involved in and It's not an easy decision. Best of luck ....

Alan, have you considered a rear mounted finish mower instead of the MMM? There are some good threads on here about the virtues of MMM vs. Rear Mount, so you'll have to form your own opinion. But, I have a much older Deere (650) w/ "60 MMM. Granted, it's not the newer quick attach system so maybe my woes are unfounded on the newer machines. I find myself removing the MMM to use the tractor for more utilitarian tasks like bush hogging, etc. I'm seriously considering scrapping the MMM for the 3 pt. ease of a rear mount. When I bought the tractor, I never realized how many different uses I'd find for it. If I were buying a new one, I wouldn't even consider a MMM. Just my $ .02. Good Luck, either way you'll love your new toy...I mean tractor. -Bryan ....

I bought a used Kubota L4310HST. This tractor does not have a mid-pto. To get the FEL off you need to get off the tractor and pull 4 pins, then get back on and use the FEL hydraulics to "disconnect" it from the tractor. Back the tractor up a foot or so then get back off the tractor to diconnect 3 hydraulic lines. Then get back on the tractor to drive off. It takes me about 10 minutes to do it. My neighbor also has a Kubota and can do it in about 5 minutes.
I bought a Land Pride 7 ft rear finish mower to mow several acres where the hay is not grown. I was used to a MMM from previous tractors. The rear mower at first was hard to use - especially trimming up next to a fence, etc. The biggest difference was that when I turn - the mower moves in the opposite direction. After using it for about 1 month now it has become very easy to use and a big benefit for me is that I can lift the mower up and back over an area that cannot be cut or driven over due to rocks, terrain, etc. ....

I have lots of trees.. so going around the trees with a mmm is a lot easier than using a rear mower. ....

I've got a JD790 with a 60" MMM and a loader. The loader removal is a snap, you just pull two release levers (while seated), push forward on the SCV (loader control lever) to raise the loader arms above the height of the front tires, hop off to detatch the hydraulics, then hop back on and back away from the loader. It takes about 2 minutes tops.

The mower removal takes about 15 minutes, you just pull a few pins, drop the PTO shaft, then pull the mower out from underneath... It's a little intimidating the 1st time, but after that, it's a breeze.
