Just bought a John Deere 970 on which I want to install a loader. What is the best bang for the buck? Also, I don't find any hydraulic outlets??? What do I need to make it work???

I have a Deere 430 loader and 5 ft bucket that I use with a 970. I wouldn't get anything bigger than a 430. It is a good combination. You will need to have a dual select control valve (DSCV) installed to get the hydraulics to work the loader. The valve will cost $500-600 from Deere. Contact a Deere dealer and he can give you specifics on cost. Some 970s had the DSCV when they were delivered but it depended on how the dealer ordered it. Good luck. Frank ....

I just purchased a new 430 Loader last month for my JD 1070. I looked at Woods Duall and Great Bend as well. I almost bought a great bend because the capacity was another 400lbs at the pin. I'm glad that I went with the Deere though. It operates well and has the newer style bucket tilt linkage that really improves tilt angles. This has been a real plus when using the fork attachment. I liked the idea of the skid steer quick attach on the other Loader brands, but the JD quick tach works easily enough and I don't hesitate to switch my HD bucket and JD fork attachment. I just though that the skid steer attachments were more universal. I was disappointed that the guard for the 4000 series will not fit on the 70 series tractor frame. They will include a lighter duty guard that attaches to the loader frame if you ask for one. The side mounting hardware is different then on the 4000 series but is just as nice. I already had the hydraulics so I didn't need those parts and saved a little money on that. I also picked up the loader and installed it myself. Fortuately I had another loader to unload my pickup. The 430 loader w/ large HD bucket, mounting hardware, front and rear brackets cost me $3195. Roughly $600. less than another JD dealer in my area. I also purchased a fork attachment at $995. I assume that the fork purchase price margin allowed the dealer to give me a better package price. Good luck ....

Hi guys, can a 440 bucket be converted to work with a quick attach bucket hookup? I assume that the 430 is a quick attach bucket, am I right? I have a 440 loader on my 970 with both Long 4n1 bucket and a 73 inch JD bucket and would like to switch between the two quickly. The Long 4n1, while great for all aroung work, is smaller then the JD and is not as well fitted to moving dirt as the JD is.
Thanks,
george ....

George, I'm a little confused because as far as I know the 440 loader is a quick attach system, infact, I believe the original quick attach loader which then spawned identical systems on the 420,430 and 460 loaders which came out for the 4000 series tractors. If you are using this loader with your buckets, don't they have the quick attach hardware as well? ....

Eric, the bucket attaches to my 440 loader with pins. My understanding is that the quick attach buckets have a quicker on and off setup. I think, but am not sure, some one mentioned that the pin to bucket setup can be converted to the newer quick on and off setup now used on the new loaders. Does anyone know about this conversion? ....

I'm with Eric on this. The 440 loaders I've seen all had a quick attach bucket just like a 430 loader. Maybe theres an earlier version of the 440 loader without the quick attach bucket?
