Here is an easy one for some of you (I have no clue)
If you have a walk out basement. and you have a conventional septic drain field up on top of the ridge (IE: first floor level) If you had a bathroom in the downstairs of you walk out, how do you get the crap (LOL) up to the ground level septic?
I was thinking a pump BUT what and how does it work?
Thanks, I know its kinda of a crappy question but it needed to be asked!

Is this a trick question?

Two ways: either by what's called a "grinder or solids pump" or "lift pump" or there are some toilets that have a pump built into them. Here in 'sippi, they use grinder pumps and force it through a common 4" main sewer line. When the pumps aren't breaking down or the power is out it quite a good system.

Did I pass? (no pun intended) ....

I guess we know who is full of it now.

I guess the other option would be a composting toilet, but it is probably cheaper initially to use the grinder system. ....

I have a "pump-up" for a small basement bathroom I put in when I bought this house. Just make sure you never put caustic fluids in your sink when cleaning up (like I did). If you do then either you or the plumber will be cleaning up the crap when the float has to be replaced. Otherwise it has never failed. ....

Gee, I learned something again today in this great forum. I too have a "pump-up" for a small basement bathroom like ncrunch, and probably many others. That small basement bathroom is "roughed in" right now with the plan to build it later. It's good to know now not to put in caustic fluids.....I guess learning from ncrunch's previous problem. ....

Yep, the plumber had warned me so I deserved what I got. I tried to get away with just a little left over paint thinner from cleaning paint brushes in the sink. The next day the pump-up didn't pump-up. Cost me some bucks, I opted to have the plumber fix it :) ....
