Hinomoto E224 w/loader, less than 3hrs on the clock, mowed for 30 minutes, 3pt O.K., then nothing. No up or down, 3pt seems to "tense up when I pull the lever" but doesnt lift. Any ideas? How do I check the hydraulic fluid, screens & filters? Also - where can I get a manual for this tractor?

Thanks in advance.

There have been discussion here similar to your problem that involve 3ph's with electric solenoid actuated valves but I can't remember if Hinomoto has them or not. If the loader works it's likely in the 3ph valve.

Can't help much with the manual of filters question. On most tractors there is a fairly obvious dipstick fitting on top of the TX cases. On others there are 'sight glasses' for the level toward the rear of the cases. On many tractors there is a large steel suction line that comes out of the lower part of the cases and goes to the hydraulic pump and the engine. A filter is in that line. ....

Thanks for the help Tom. I took the mower off the 3pt last night, the 3pt will go up/down if I rev the engine to full throttle, but it only moves very slowly and doesnt work at lower rpms. The not sure about the valves, but there is dipstick in the center of the TXcase thats full (overflowing) and a 1" screw down metal cap that appears to be where to fill the hydraulic fluid (full-overflowing.) I plan on digging in this weekend; and trying to match fuel, oil and locate the hydraulic filter/screen... ....

Your overflowing comments could be part of the probem. You need empty space in the case for the return line to work properly. If you found a dipstick, make sure the case isn't full past the full mark, assuring the case has the proper breathing room for the return. Overflowing could lead to pressure lock in the system. ....

Sure wish I knew something about this tractor. Most hydraulic systems use a common reservoir in the TX cases for both TX lubrication and hydraulics. As Beagle said, it'd be good to get the level down to full. I wonder how it became that full? Hydraulic oil should be fairly clear or straw coloured and not have much odour. It also shouldn't be frothy after the tractor has run awhile. Frothy often means clogged filters and an unusual appearance or colour means contamination from some source.

A few systems use screens and no filter but most have a filter and many have both. If you find the pump, you'll likely also find the filter. To find the pump, look for a steel line in the vicinity of the 3ph level and trace it forward to the engine. That should be the high-pressure line, although there also can be power-steering and pressure-relief lines. The high-pressure line will lead to the pump but maybe through a manifold block. A larger line (can be steel, rubber or mixed) attached to the pump should be the suction line, and any filter will be in the suction line. However, it's possible that your tractor is nothing like this description. Some NAPA and some box stores have cross-reference filter tables and the tractor may be listed. ....

Is the loader also working the same way? I don't have a 224 parts book, but if it is like the E324, there isn't a pickup screen, just a filter by the hydraulic pump. ....

Thanks for the help. Worked the loader this weekend moving sand, worked great. 3pt would sometimes "jerk" up & down while using the tractor, but mostly just not move. I will try locating the hyd. filter tonight. Looked for the screen, no luck. ....

Unfortunately with most tractors, if the loader works OK then screens and filters aren't the answer. Some JD's do have a screen in the pressure line that could cause a similar problem but I don't know about this tractor. Sometimes a loader valve that isn't centered will cause the 3ph to stop working but the problem sounds more like a 3ph valve problem. Changing the filter and oil still is a good idea. More on 3ph valves later perhaps. ....

Thanks for everyones help. The 3pt valve was clogged with metal shavings/gunk, so I had it removed, cleaned out and the hyd fluid changed - works great. I appreciate everyones input and support! ....
