Guys my Whirlpooln 25.6 cu. ft. side by side is on its last leg and I need to get a new frig. There are 5 of us and current frig. is always over filled. So far I have narrowed it down to a Maytag 27 cu. ft. or a Fridgidaire 26 cu. ft., both side by sides. I have not read very good feedback about them on epinion. It is either really good or aweful feedback. I would love a GE Profile 30 or a Kitchen Aid but I cannot see paying over 2 grand for a frig. I am also limited in size due to the size of the front door opening. (has to be less than 34" in depth or width to fit through the door. The Whirlpool we have now is about 15 years old and I would prefer to stay with a Whirlpool as they seem to give you the best bang for the buck or so I thought up until recently. They are now double and over double the Maytag and Frigidaire. I recently installed a Fridgidaire convection range and the "Sergeant Major" (short for Kitchen Sergeant Major) loves it. Has been a very good range. This does not necessarily mean the Frigidaire refrigerator will be the same. Have any of you had any experience with this brand. ANY other suggestions, comments, gripes, feedback, and whatever else would be VERY welcome.

I'm very opinionated when it comes to appliances. Our Frigidaire W/D set are the worst appliance products I've ever owned. Even though they're only three years old after six repairs we're ready to replace them. That doesn't mean they don't make good refrigerators though. GE refrigerators have a history of noisy operation - loud compressors and gurgling noises. I have heard similar things about Maytags. Be sure to listen to the noise level before buying.

I have read that newer refrigerators are designed to run nearly all the time. Most of them have smaller, more energy efficient compressors that are sized just large enough to keep up. This saves you money on energy but I suspect the units need repairs more often due to long duty cycles.

We've always had good luck with Whirlpools but these days I'd probably shop for low noise levels, features and warranty. ....

Chief, we have a GE that is 13 years old. Never had any problem, yet.

Go to Sears online and do a search on refrigerator. They have quite a few listed. Numerous brands, sizes and prices.

Good luck

I have been looking online at Sears and Lowes. So far, Lowes seems to have the best prices and selection. Maybe Sears will have a sales in the near future. ....

I also bought the Fridgidaire dual fuel convection last year. I seem fairly well but together. I installed a Fridgidaire diswasher and the handle fell off last week. Not the best construction but I went for the stainless look and needed to match it up.
I bought the Whirlpool 26 at Sears. They said they had had the best luck with them. They also make the Kenmore. I have not had problem with it yet and it is 4 years old. I had a Maytag before that. The only problem with it was the defrost heater at about 5 years old and the tray under the ice depense kept corroding. ....

I have three GEs of varying age. All are working. I just gave the oldest one (still working after 20 years) to a person just moving into a house for the first time. I am leaving a second one that is about ten years old with a house I am selling and the third on which is six years old is in the garage doing beverage service.

The refrigerator in our kitchen is an Amana, I think, and it has had a few problems. I think the best refrigerator is probably Sub Zero. I don't know what their relative cost is compared to the more well known lines. ....

I think Roper is the best buy. It is a no-frills Whirlpool- inside it is the same machine. Their repair record has been excellent. Also, top freezers in general are more reliable than side by sides. IMHO, the best reefers are made by Whirlpool; the best washers are Maytag, and the best gas range is a GE.
Additionally, The least expensive appliances within a model line are usually the most reliable; it is the "frills" that break first- an icemaker is a good example of this. ....
