Hello,

I have Belarus 520 (Year: 1979). and I own it since last 2-3 months. I am new to Tractors..

PTO is working and rotating..By using Lever, I can start PTO and I can stop PTO. Only issue is: If I keep PTO in stopped condition then Some Grinding Noise is coming from Gearbox, I feel like Clutch plates friction is making heavy noise...

Am I missing any correct procedure to stop PTO ?
Is there any clutch or Lock, which I am not aware of ? I am new to tractors so I am not sure, how this functions normally...

Also, If anyone has Repair Manual for Belarus 520, then please point me link.

Thank You,

I'm not sure I understand your post correctly, but as I understand it your PTO spins regardless whether the lever is set to engage or disengage.

If that is the case I'm afraid your PTO clutch has been stripped. Basically, either the PTO clutch got out of adjustment due to wear, or just over-loaded to the point it started to slip. That caused all the friction material to wear off and the friction caused by steel plates now rubbing together melted them enough that when they cooled down they welded themselves together. This why the output shaft is now turning all the time.

With the tractor shut off but in gear you should be able to turn the output shaft by hand. I'm willing to bet you can't turn yours even with a big pry bar.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Best of luck. ....

Thank You for your reply.

Sorry for confusing post.

PTO Operation is working fine. By use of Lever, I can stop it and I can also re-start it.

Only issue is: If I keep PTO in "Not Rotating" condition, then some Grinding noise is coming from inside...which makes me fear that something will break or clutch will grind-up....So, to avoid that noise, I am keeping PTO always in rotating condition.

So, What that Grinding noise can be ? and is there any document, which give me detail insight on this operation ? ....

Ok, now with a little more info it's a little easier to advise.

It sounds like the PTO is just not fully disengaging. If there is an inspection plate I'd see if you can have a look and see if the lever has slipped on the shaft that engages / disengages the PTO.

Best of luck. ....
